How MAPPA Can Fix Its Work Culture: Ethical Solutions for a Sustainable Future Studio MAPPA has reached a breaking point.          The studio, well known for its major hits like Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen,  and Chainsaw Man, has  faced serious criticism for overworking its animators. Reporting insane work hours, low pay, and even a hospitalization, which raised the ethical concerns dramatically.     If MAPPA wants to survive without burning its workforce, it will need a significant change. However, what is the best path forward?  Kyoto Animation Model     In short Kyoto Animation prioritizes workers over profits. This is the studio that does the most right in the industry. Kyoto Animation, or KyoAni for short, takes on only one anime per year, and the results speak for themselves, unlike MAPPA.     According to CRB, KyoAni's approach includes sustainable workloads, full-time employment, fair wages, and reas...

What is the industry and media saying about about MAPPA's animator mistreatment?     The anime industry has been well known to have harsh working conditions. However, few studios have been publicly criticized as MAPPA has the recent years. MAPPA, the studio behind major hits like Attack On Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Chainsaw Man,  rapidly expanded; it was at the unfortunate expense of its animators. Many reports of overwork, hospitalizations due to stress, and an unrealistic production schedule have led to a wave of criticism from all kinds of media.      Although, what are these bloggers, reporters, editorialists, and online fans saying about MAPPA's mistreatment of employees? More importantly, what is the industry saying about this? Konshuu: The Unreasonable Workload at MAPPA     A report from Konshuu  highlights one of the focal issues with MAPPA's production model: the sheer number of influential projects that the studio takes on. ...

MAPPA's Response to their Ethical Concerns

MAPPA's Response to Ethical Controversy      To keep things short, the management at MAPPA has said one thing that was like dousing gasoline into a fire. The CEO of MAPPA at the time,  Manabu Otsuka, stated that "they desire to continue rolling out high-quality anime in as short amount of time as possible". This only confirms that the employees at MAPPA are horrendously overworked. Other than this, no other major party at MAPPA has come out to make a statement about their actions at MAPPA. From the looks of it, MAPPA is almost choosing to ignore it or completely dismiss it.      In a report from Gamerant, highlights how Otsuka failed to offer concrete solutions; rather, he made statements that were vague or did little to address the core issue. Similarly, another report by Sportskeeda revealed very distressing stories from employees that describe a work environment that was so severe that animators were "literally dying" from the stress. Man...

MAPPA has managed to produce many major hits in adaptations from popular manga (Japanese comics). A few of these major hits would include the shows Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, and Season 4 of Attack On Titan. All of which did super well.        Animators spend much of their time in the studio working on these shows to achieve high ratings, such as an IMDB rating.
